The significance of this simple map, probably showing a small building beside a fork in a road, is unclear. The sketch appears tentative, as if perhaps drawn from memory, with the road descending towards the bottom centre seemingly indicated twice. It does not correlate with the various maps and plans of Sandycombe Lodge, Turner’s self-designed home, built at Twickenham around 1812 on land acquired in 1807 – compare the separate Sandycombe related sheets (Tate D08232 , D08235 ; Turner Bequest CXX R, U), and pages in the Derbyshire sketchbook (Tate D07188 ; Turner Bequest CVI 48a) and the Sandycombe and Yorkshire sketchbook (Tate D08994 ; Turner Bequest CXXVII 21a).
