红色植绒墙

In 1967, Sonnier began to make works by painting latex directly onto the wall of the gallery and peeling most of it away. The latex remains attached along its top by its own stickiness and is sometimes (as here) pinned out from the wall. Red Flocked Wall was first made in Cologne in 1969 but is remade in situ each time it is displayed. Sonnier covers the final layer of latex with red painted sawdust. The work is a delicate membrane but has a very precise relationship to the space it occupies, since it is a cast of the gallery’s wall.
