Laurens Grant [pronounced La-RENZ] is a 3-time Emmy and Peabody award-winning filmmaker and a Sundance Institute filmmaker fellow. She is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – Documentary Branch [Oscars], and a voter in the Television Academy [Emmys]. She is also a member of the Television Academy's Documentary Peer Group Executive Committee. Producer | Director | Writer Laurens Grant is Executive Producer, Showrunner and writer of the two-hour election documentary special Campaigns That Made History that premiered on History in October 2020. Grant was also a Story Producer on the Hulu series Defining Moments with host and editor Carlos Watson. Grant is the Producer and Director of Black in Space: Breaking the Color Barrier [Smithsonian Channel] about the untold story of the Cold War race to get the first Black astronaut into space. She directed the documentary Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement [BET] which received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding News/Information. She produced the Peabody and Emmy-nominated documentary The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution [PBS] that premiered at Sundance, representing her third film to premiere at the prestigious film festival. She also produced the 3-time Emmy winning documentary Freedom Riders [PBS] and worked with many civil rights giants, including the late John Lewis. She also directed and produced the Emmy winning documentary Jesse Owens [PBS] which also received two additional Emmy nominations for outstanding historical long form documentary and outstanding music and sound.
