Bringing together Chinese myth, religion, folklore, art, and literature, this book is the first in any language to amass the sources of stone myth and stone lore in Chinese culture. Uniting classical Chinese studies with contemporary Western theoretical concerns, Wang examines these stone narratives by analyzing intertextuality within Chinese traditions. 王瑾（Jing Wang，1950年-2021年）

美国麻省理工学院中国文化研究教授、比较媒介系教授。1985年获麻省理工学院比较文学博士。曾在杜克大学任教十六年。兼任中山大学公益传播研究所主任，及中国科技大学客座教授等。

本书为王瑾代表作，于1991年由杜克大学出版社出版，由于其对石头传说的系统收集和分析，已经成为该类型中的经典。获列文森奖（Winner, Joseph Levenson Prize (pre-twentieth century China), Association for Asian Studies）。
