复制匠，业余真菌学家。作为打击乐、机遇音乐、电子音乐的开拓者，凯奇是20世纪最有影响的美国作曲家之一。与此同时，在与舞蹈家梅尔塞•坎宁安等人的交往中，凯奇也推动了美国现代舞的发展。1961年出版的著作《沉默》奠定了他作为音乐思想家的地位。凯奇的思想深受东方的禅宗、周易思想的影响，他最出名的作品当属《4分33秒》（1952）。
