As the Nazis rise to power, Isherwood describes his dramatic struggle to save his partner Heinz from the persecution the Third Reich.

克里斯托弗•伊舍伍德(1904—1986)

英裔美国作家。一九二九年随好友诗人奥登前往柏林,在当地待了四年,恰好见证了纳粹在德国的兴起。一九四六年获得美国国籍,余生定居美国。其作品带有浓郁的自传色彩,以细腻优美的文笔及对人性独特的洞见,构成绝妙的社会寓言。代表作《单身男子》被改编为电影并获多项国际大奖。《别了,柏林》和《诺里斯先生换火车》合称为《柏林故事集》,被美国国家图书馆与《时代》杂志选入“二十世纪一百部最佳英语小说”。曾与奥登合写日记《战地行纪》,记载一九三八年周游中国的见闻。美国著名剧作家、小说家和散文家戈尔•维达尔称伊舍伍德为“最好的英语散文作家”。
