This is an introductory undergraduate textbook in set theory. In mathematics these days, essentially everything is a set. Some knowledge of set theory is necessary part of the background everyone needs for further study of mathematics. It is also possible to study set theory for its own interest--it is a subject with intruiging results anout simple objects. This book starts with material that nobody can do without. There is no end to what can be learned of set theory, but here is a beginning.

Herbert B.Enderton 哈佛大学博士,师从著名哲学家Hilary Putnam。曾任教于加州大学伯克利分校。现为加州大学洛杉矶分校数学系兼职教授,该校“逻辑学论坛”主席,曾担任《符号逻辑学会评论》杂志的主编。除本书外,他还著有A Mathematical Introduction to Logic和Linear Algebra。
