This Very Short Introduction provides a concise overview of the main themes of contemporary philosophy of science. Beginning with a short history of science to set the scene, Samir Okasha goes on to investigate the nature of scientific reasoning, scientific explanation, revolutions in science, and theories such as realism and anti-realism. He also looks at philosophical issues in particular sciences, including the problem of classification in biology, and the nature of space and time in physics. The final chapter touches on the conflicts between science and religion, and explores whether science is ultimately a good thing.

米尔·奥卡沙,英国布里斯托大学科学哲学教授。1998年获牛津大学博士学位,此后曾先后任教于伦敦经济学院、墨西哥国立大学、约克大学,2003年9月加入布里斯托大学,2008年起任该校哲学系主任。已在哲学期刊上发表科学哲学、生物哲学、认识论领域的论文数篇。
