美国后现代主义小说家，曾任新闻记者、杂志编辑，也曾在纽约城市大学等高校任教。一生创作大量短篇小说，著有《巴塞尔姆的白雪公主》《亡父》《天堂》等中长篇小说，获古根海姆奖、美国国家图书奖等，被誉为“今日众多年轻作家的文学教父”。
