本种与花旗松的区别在其叶先端凸尖，下面有2条白色气孔带，具明显的绿色边带。球果特大，长达12-15厘米，径4-6厘米，卵状圆柱形或椭圆状圆柱形，种鳞宽大，斜方状肾形或横椭圆状肾形，宽大于长，苞鳞与种鳞近等长或稍长于种鳞，中裂较短，种子、种翅均较宽大。

原产美国加利福尼亚南部山区。我国江西庐山引种栽培。
