形状项目 | The "Shapes" project is a large-scale project by Allan McCollum that seeks to produce unique two-dimensional shapes, "one for every person on the planet when the world population peaks in the middle of the twenty-first century". 31,000,000,000 different shapes are planned, but the artist himself is aware that he won't be able to finish the project in his lifetime and will leave the project for others to finish. The first batch of prints, consisting of 7056 shapes, was started in 2005 and finished in 2006 |

每一个和你的每一个 | In this project, Allan McCollum has delivered a poignant work: Each and Every One of You, an arresting exploration of the emotional investment we all share in giving each other names. "There is a fearful void," says McCollum, "in the gap between the names we are given and the presence we have with one another." Hoping to evoke an avalanche of memory and feeling with the simplest of means, he researched the U.S. Census Bureau's most recent compilation of common names used in the U.S., and produced 3 portfolios of 1200 prints each: the 600 most common female names and the 600 most common male names. Each portfolio is ordered according to popularity into two handmade walnut boxes. Each and Every One of You was first exhibited at the Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts. |

四十个石膏替代品的集合 | McCollum has clustered together plaster models of forty monochromatic paintings of various sizes in the dense display style of a nineteenth-century salon. To produce this work, the artist and his assistants engaged in repetitive and communal labor that systematized and broke down the artistic process into stages of production: the creation of molds, the casting of plaster, and the application of enamel paint to create a smooth surface with no trace of the artist’s hand. Although the panels were all executed in this way, no two share the same dimensions and frame color. Handmade but standardized, Collection of Forty Plaster Surrogates integrates art and mass production, challenging conventional distinctions between these types of labor. |
